BIOGRAPHY

André Tempera was born in Portugal, where he lived most his life. He started playing guitar informally at the age of 10 and a few years later enrolled in a Music Conservatory, completing the music program fully in 2005. He then continued his music studies, obtaining a Bachelors degree from Lisbon Superior School of Music in 2008, followed by a Masters degree from Évora University in 2011, both in Performance - Classical Guitar. He completed his Doctorate in Music and Musicology at Évora University in 2018.
During his training, André had the opportunity to attend masterclasses with renowned guitarists, including Carlo Marchione, Joaquin Clerch, Costas Cotsiolis, Hubert Käppel, Irina Kulikova, Alexis Muzurakis, Dejan Ivanovic and Michalis Kontaxakis, among others. He also participated in a few competitions, having won the 1st prize in the VIII Leiria International Guitar Competition in 2011.
As a musician, André has played in solo recitals, in several chamber music formations, and in concertos with orchestra, mainly in Portugal. As a teacher, he has instructed students of all ages in official Music Schools and Conservatories, having also created student guitar ensembles, which he conducted and created arrangements for.
After living in Cincinnati, OH for 3 years, André has recently moved to Raleigh, NC, where he has been teaching and performing.
He has been playing with a Giannis Paleodimopoulos guitar since 2010.
